What a brilliant evening at the private view of Winston Branch’s solo exhibition “The Sweet Scent of Magnolia”, presented by Varvara Roza Galleries in collaboration with The Blender Gallery. The exhibition includes some stunning large-scale canvases painted in Winston’s London studio during a prolific period in 2023.
The artist arrived fashionably late, and guests included; Varvara Roza, CEO of Varvara Roza Galleries, Basia Briggs, Fashion family Tatum, Rocky and Louise Mazzilli, Henrietta, Countess of Caledon and Katie Braine, Jason Theophanidis, of The Blender Gallery, model and Guirado Estate CEO Catalina Guirado & Jorg White, OCA Gallery Founder Sherece Rainford, Africa Seen & Heard founder and film producer Winifred Adeyemi, Film Producer Peter Ogunsulu, Madeleine LONDNR Magazine, Morgan Cars Heir Charles Morgan, Fashion Designer Olubiyi Thomas, Artist Kay Gasei, Armando Ara, artist & Head of Art Faculty at ACS London, Aeglia Roza, artist and academic Nadja Stamselberg, Hauser & Wirth director Sarah Bourghardt & Gallerist Lyndsey Ingram, and artist Oisin-davis Lyons.
At the age of 76, Branch shows no signs of slowing down, and remains as dedicated as ever to his craft. Recent exhibitions include; the Royal Academy of Arts Summer exhibition 2023; “Jasmines Blowing in the wind” at Simon Lee Gallery ‘Fragments of Light’ at Cedric Bardawill in 2023; and a group exhibition at The Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester in 2022. In 2018, the Tate Collection acquired ‘Zachary II’ (1982), a stunning abstract work with a powdery blue and sandy pink palette, which the Tate compared to a Monet.
