Bowman Sculpture Celebrates 200 Years of Sculptural Mastery at Treasure House Art Fair

Bowman Sculpture highlights two centuries of sculptural masterpieces at the third edition of Treasure House Art Fair, while also debuting a new Emerging Artists section and presenting work by Massimiliano Pelletti in the fair’s Sculpture Walk.

Bowman Sculpture’s compelling presentation at Treasure House Art Fair–curated by Mica Bowman–spotlights over two centuries of sculptural achievement, featuring works by celebrated canonical masters such as Auguste Rodin—a long-established specialty of the gallery—alongside significant pieces from the 19th-century through to Modern and Contemporary eras. Visitors to the fair can expect the museum-quality works for which Bowman Sculpture is internationally recognised.

A highlight of this year’s presentation by Bowman Sculpture at Stand 106 is the debut of a newly introduced Emerging Artists Section, featuring fresh voices in sculpture at accessible price points. This exciting initiative reflects the gallery’s long-term commitment to supporting the next generation of artists and creating pathways for young collectors to begin building meaningful collections.

Visitors to Bowman Sculpture’s stand at Treasure House Art Fair may also want to visit the gallery in Mayfair, where a major exhibition of Dutch Sculptor Hanneke Beaumont –“Sculpting The Universal Self– will be on view until 25th July.

The Treasure House Fair is held in the grounds of London’s historic Royal Hospital Chelsea at the height of the summer season. The third edition of the Fair brings together a curated blend of art, antiques and design, with 70 of the world’s foremost art and antiquities dealers gathering to showcase their finest works.

Sculpture Walk: Disrupt ~ Connect

This year’s enhanced Treasure House Art Fair Sculpture Walk, titled Disrupt ~ Connect, is spearheaded by sculpture specialist Flo Horswell (Harvey Horsewell Ltd.) and curated by Dr. Melissa L. Gustin, Curator of British Art at the Walker Art Gallery, National Museums Liverpool.

Italian sculptor Massimiliano Pelletti features prominently with two critically acclaimed works: Gladiatore Borghese and Pink African Hermes. These monumental sculptures exemplify Pelletti’s distinctive fusion of classical form and contemporary materiality—marble and stone interrupted by crystalline veins, distortions, and colourful fissures that challenge viewers’ expectations of idealised beauty.

Massimiliano Pelletti (Italian, Contemporary)Pink African Hermes, Pink Onyx, Height: 37″ (94cm).

Inspired by the Hellenistic masterpiece Borghese Gladiator (3rd–2nd century BCE), Gladiatore Borghese reinterprets a classical form through the lens of modernity, embracing themes of fragmentation and the passage of time. Pink African Hermes similarly showcases Pelletti’s philosophical exploration of antiquity, identity, and material, rendered through his virtuosic hand-carving and geological insight.

Pink African Hermes also marks a significant evolution in Pelletti’s practice as the first of his works to incorporate sculptural traditions beyond his Italian heritage. By fusing classical Western forms with references to other ancient artistic canons, Pelletti opens a new chapter in his exploration of global antiquity and identity. This powerful work offers a preview of a more dynamic and internationally resonant body of sculpture. More of these combination works will be shown in his upcoming solo exhibition at Bowman Sculpture’s Mayfair gallery during Frieze London in October 2025.

Pelletti, who lives and works in Pietrasanta—the Tuscan town also home to Michelangelo—has exhibited internationally, from Shanghai to Catanzaro. His recent solo museum exhibition, Versus (2024–2025) at the Palazzo Massimo National Roman Museum in Rome, placed his sculptures in dialogue with iconic classical antiquities such as the Lancellotti Discobolus andCrouching Venus. As the first contemporary artist invited to do so, Pelletti affirmed his position as one of the most compelling voices in sculpture today.

“Pelletti’s work shows how a passion for antiquity and the traditions of one’s craft can be made incredibly contemporary… playing with our expectations for a classical form.”

New Works and Upcoming Solo Show

At Stand 106, Bowman Sculpture also unveil brand new sculptures by Pelletti, offering collectors an exclusive first look ahead of his anticipated second UK solo exhibition, opening in October 2025 (dates TBC). His debut UK show, Eredità (2023), was a sell-out exhibition that drew acclaim from curators, collectors, and museum professionals. Visitors to Treasure House will have the rare opportunity to encounter Pelletti’s visionary work in an immersive context—both outdoors in the Sculpture Walk and at Bowman Sculpture’s dedicated stand.

Treasure House Art Fair runs from 26th June – 1st July, 2025 at Royal Hospital Chelsea, South Grounds, London, SW3 4SR.
