Culturalee Spotlights a selection of galleries at London Art Fair, starting with Contemporary Applied Arts (CAA). CAA returns to London Art Fair with a compelling, interdisciplinary presentation that celebrates innovation across ceramics, jewellery, sculpture and textiles. Renowned for championing excellence in craft-led contemporary practice, the gallery will present works by Ali Holloway, Caroline Egleston, Helen Yardley, Jilli Blackwood, Marian Ripoll and Ömer Öner.

The stand brings together a dynamic range of material languages and artistic voices. Ömer Öner’s abstract porcelain horse sculptures – bearing striking titles such as Punk Black Horse and Dark Horse Saddle – introduce an edgy, conceptual sensibility to ceramic form. Ali Holloway contributes delicate textile works, including Ghost Tool Five, exploring fragility and process through subtle surface interventions. Jilli Blackwood’s paintings play with colour and rhythm, pairing oil paint with her “slash and show” embroidery style to create texturized oil paintings. Marian Ripoll’s sculptural canvases engage with minimalist composition and tactility. Completing the presentation, Helen Yardley’s paintings merge collage and colour theory – whilst visually abstract, they carry subtle layers of meaning and evoke something more sustaining than simple decoration.

All the works are thoughtfully curated to frame conversations between disciplines, revealing shared techniques, narratives and material concerns. This approach underscores CAA’s long-standing mission to “foster quality and innovation in the applied arts,” highlighting how contemporary craft continues to evolve through cross-disciplinary exchange.

We are excited to bring our vibrant interdisciplinary approach to art to London Art Fair, showcasing a range of mediums from ceramic sculpture to textile art. Each maker has an innovative approach to their chosen material, and we look forward to showing how craft can bring warmth and texture to the home.”
