Wienerroither & Kohlbacher

A stunning 1897 portrait by Gustav Klimt of Ghanaian Prince William Nii Nortey Dowuona is exhibited at Wienerroither & Kohlbacher for the first time since disappearing from public view in 1928. The painting reflects a pivotal moment in Klimt’s artistic evolution. The painting was found in poor condition, with a faint estate stamp by Klimt. Expert Prof. Dr. Alfred Weidinger confirmed its identity after years of searching. The rediscovery provides valuable insights into Klimt’s stylistic shift and highlights the complex historical connections between Europe and Africa during the late 19th century.
Landau Fine Art

Pablo Picasso Les Dormeurs 1965 holds a distinguished place, not only in Picasso’s legacy, but also in the history of modern art. Chosen by Picasso’s esteemed and long-time dealer, Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, to hang behind his desk, thisextraordinary painting become a symbol of Picasso’s genius. It featured prominently in interviews and exhibitions, including Picasso’s seminal 1971 Retrospective at the Louvre, one of the rare occasions when the Mona Lisa was relocated to make way for another piece. This iconic work has been exhibited in some of the most important cultural institutions worldwide, includingthe Louvre, Stedelijk Museum, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Tate, Centre Pompidou, and Museu Picasso.
Jorge Welsh Works of Art

A highly important Kuancai, so-called Coromandel, lacquer screen, intricately decorated on both sides with scenes of The Dutch Tribute and a panoramic view of Hangzhou’s West Lake is on display at Jorge Welsh Works of Art. This remarkable piece stands as a testament to the cross-cultural exchanges and diplomatic encounters between Europe and China during the 17th century. Notably, this is the only screen known to combine these two scenes, with only around ten other screens documented that feature depictions of Europeans. The work highlights the rich historical artistic dialogue between the East and West during a pivotal period in global history.
Trinity Fine Art

A stunning painting by Titian and Girolamo Dente dated between 1555 and 1560 has resurfaced at TEFAF after being hidden for more than two centuries. The Madonna and Child with St. Mary Magdalen last surfaced at Christie’s in 1937.
M.S. Rau

North American gallery M.S. Rau was founded in 1912 and has established a reputation for exhibiting art and antiques comparable to world-class museums. Monet’s 1886 ‘Vue du Village de Giverny’, Van Gogh’s 1884 ‘Still Life with Two Sacks and a Bottle’ and Gauguin’s “Fleur dans un Vase avec partition musicale’ (c.1874-76) steal the show at the gallery’s TEFAF booth.
Richard Saltoun

Richard Saltoun’s booth is dedicated to Lebanese Surrealist Juliana Seraphim, a leading 20th-century Middle Eastern modernists. The gallery’s tightly arranged survey of work from across Seraphim’s career sits in the Focus section of the fair, dedicated to curated presentations of single artists or concepts.
