Victoria Mouraux Durand-Ruel, a Paris-born art advisor, curator, and descendant of legendary Impressionist dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, will open Mouraux Durand-Ruel Gallery this September at 555 West 25th Street in the heart of Chelsea, with the inaugural opening timed to coincide with The Armory Show (September 24-27). Located directly across from Pace Gallery’s New York headquarters and in the same building as Pierre Yovanovitch, Mouraux Durand-Ruel Gallery will introduce an international program rooted in connoisseurship, historical dialogue, and a commitment to supporting living artists at pivotal moments in their careers.
Drawing on Victoria Mouraux Durand-Ruel’s experience across museums, auction houses, art fairs, and galleries, as well as her family’s legacy of championing artists ahead of their time, the gallery will present a carefully curated program of contemporary art across painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, drawing, and installation. Its mission is to foster dialogue between New York and Europe while bringing emerging and established artists into conversation with one another.
Alongside its contemporary program, the gallery will place selected works from the Impressionist, Modern, and Post-War secondary market in conversation with living artists, creating exhibitions that connect past and present through a rigorous, museum-minded approach.
The inaugural exhibition is expected to feature photographs by the late French artist Lucien Clergue (1934-2014), the pioneering French photographer who worked closely with Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau, co-founder of the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival, and the first photographer elected to France’s Académie des Beaux-Arts. Widely recognized for his striking black-and-white photographs of the Camargue, the Mediterranean, and the human figure, Clergue’s work reflects the gallery’s broader mission of placing historically significant artists in dialogue with contemporary practice.
The gallery will collaborate closely with the Durand-Ruel Archives in Paris as well as Frederick Mouraux Gallery in Brussels, creating an ongoing exchange of exhibitions, scholarship, and public programming between Europe and New York.
